About the Provider
Applications are now open for a fully funded PhD program in Marine Science at the University of Southern Mississippi (USM), starting as early as January 2026. This opportunity is jointly offered by the Hayes Lab for Marine Geochemistry and the Coastal Evolution and Hazards Lab under two NSF-funded projects.
Research Areas
- Successful applicants will work on exciting climate-related marine projects, including:
- Millennial-scale tropical cyclone reconstruction from atoll and blue hole sites in the Western Pacific (Micronesia, Palau, Philippines).
- Saharan dust transport records over the past 1500 years in the western Atlantic to evaluate linkages with hurricane activity.
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Marine Science, Geoscience, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Strong foundation in chemical analysis and data interpretation.
- Excellent organizational and research skills.
Funding & Benefits
- Stipend: $27,600 annually
