Job Description
The Regulatory & Compliance Manager will be responsible for ensuring Sahara Power Group’s compliance with applicable laws, regulations, licenses, and codes. This role involves developing and implementing regulatory strategies, managing stakeholder relationships, monitoring policy developments, and embedding a compliance culture across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement effective regulatory strategies to ensure compliance with industry laws and codes.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators and key stakeholders, including NERC, TCN, NISO, BPE, NNPC, gas suppliers, and the Ministry of Power.
- Monitor and analyze regulatory, legislative, and policy developments in electricity and gas markets, advising management on impacts.
- Lead regulatory filings, licensing processes, public hearings, consultations, and tariff reviews.
- Represent Sahara Power Group in industry associations such as GenCos and coordinate engagements with market participants.
- Identify and manage regulatory risks while recommending mitigation strategies.
- Support operational and commercial teams with regulatory interpretations and compliance.
- Ensure regulatory requirements are integrated into contracts, projects, and operations.
- Maintain compliance databases, ensuring timely renewals and submissions.
- Drive advocacy efforts on industry reforms and market rules.
- Manage regulatory disputes and support resolution of market challenges.
Qualifications & Requirements
- 10–15 years total professional experience, with at least 5–7 years in a senior regulatory/compliance role in a regulated industry (power, oil & gas, telecoms, banking).
- Proven track record of engagement with regulators and government agencies.
- Strong leadership and cross-functional management experience.
- Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP or CCEP-I).
- International Compliance Association (ICA) Diploma in Governance, Risk & Compliance.
- Certified Risk Manager (CRM) or ISO 31000 Risk Management Certification.
- Sector-specific certifications in Electricity Market Operations, Grid Code Compliance, or Gas Regulations.
- In-depth knowledge of laws, regulations, and market operations.
- Policy analysis and legislative tracking.
- Stakeholder engagement with government and industry bodies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Engineering, Economics, Political Science, Public Policy, or a related field.
- Master’s degree (MBA, LLM, or Energy Policy/Regulation) is an advantage.
- Professional certificates such as BL (for lawyers in Nigeria), LLM in Energy/Regulatory Law.
- Strategic advocacy, negotiation, and crisis management skills.
- Excellent report writing, presentation, and regulatory representation abilities.
